Now, Alan Wake is finally getting a sequel. Or, at least, that’s how it would appear.
Remedy “confirms” Alan Wake 2
Technically, Remedy did not explicitly confirm that it is working on Alan Wake 2. Instead, the unofficial confirmation comes from the studio’s most recent investor report. Here, Remedy detailed that the unannounced game project it is working on alongside Epic Games “has moved into full production”. In the same message to its investors, Remedy also confirmed that it is still in “full production mode” on another unannounced game. Many believe that this pertains to the multi-player spin-off to Control that the studio teased earlier this year. Part of the reason why it took this long for Remedy to work on a sequel to Alan Wake was that the rights belonged to Microsoft. It wasn’t until 2019 that Remedy managed to acquire Alan Wake from Microsoft, which is why the studio had a chance to connect Alan Wake with its latest title, Control, in one of the game’s post-launch DLC content. With that said, we know from an earlier report this year that Remedy is working on two titles with the full backing of Epic Games. We have reason to believe that Epic wants to make both games exclusive to its digital storefront, the Epic Games Store. This would also help explain the sightings of Alan Wake remastered and Final Fantasy VII Remake listings on the backend of the Epic Games Store. Remedy might be thinking of using the former to drum up hype as it works on Alan Wake 2.
When is the release date of Alan Wake 2?
As part of the presentation, Remedy pointed out how much success Control has had since the studio released the game in 2019. Also, as we mentioned earlier, Remedy is moving forward with its work on the 4-player co-op game set in the Control universe. Unfortunately, the presentation wasn’t all good news for fans who are waiting for Remedy to reveal the sequels to Alan Wake and Control. In addition to what we have already mentioned, the “future bigger-budget Control game” is still in its “early conception phase,” so fans shouldn’t expect the game to arrive anytime soon. Speaking of, because Alan Wake 2 just entered full production, this means that the game isn’t going to release in the immediate future. At the earliest, we can expect Alan Wake 2 to be released in 2023 with a potential reveal at E3 2022 or sometime by then.
