With that said, 2022 is about to be even bigger for the Marvel Extended Universe with several movies and TV shows all lined up for release one after another. To help keep you in the loop, here is a list of all the Marvel TV shows and movies releasing in 2022 - in chronological order:
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - May 6, 2022 Thor: Love and Thunder - July 8, 2022 Ms. Marvel - Summer 2022 Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - November 11
Unfortunately, these are all the TV shows and movies with confirmed release dates and windows in 2022. We’ll make sure to keep the list updated once Marvel Studios confirms the premiere dates of other upcoming TV shows and films.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - May 6, 2022
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness marks Sam Raimi’s return at the helm of another Marvel film after working on the fan-favorite Spider-Man trilogy of the 2000s. There are very few details available about Multiverse of Madness right now except that production already concluded mid-April 2021 but that the film is currently undergoing reshoots for unexplained reasons. In terms of the film’s story, we know that it will dive deeper into Doctor Strange’s research on the time stone. Judging from the title itself, the film will explore the concept of the multiverse, which it will lightly touch upon in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In addition to Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Stephen Strange, as well as Benedict Wong as Wong and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, the film will also see Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff make an appearance as the film ties into the events of Wandavision with Xochitl Gomez featured as America Chavez, an interdimensional superpowered teenager.
Thor: Love and Thunder - July 8, 2022
Thor: Love and Thunder will mark the first time that a MEU character will have a fourth solo outing. Following the success of Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, he’s set to return and direct Chris Hemsworth’s latest feature film as the Norse god of thunder. He’ll star alongside Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie as well as Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, who we saw earlier this year is looking pretty buff as she’s set to take on the role of Lady Thor. Speaking of returning characters, Jamie Alexander’s Lady Sif is going to return after being absent for quite a while with Star-Lord and the other Guardians of the Galaxy all part of Thor’s latest intergalactic adventures as well. So far, Marvel Studios has done a great job at keeping plot details about Thor: Love and Thunder under lock and key. However, from several interviews and leaked photos, we know that Thor is going to do battle against a worthy adversary in Gorr the God-Butcher, played by Christian Bale.
Ms. Marvel - Summer 2022
Crossing over from the MCU side of things, Ms. Marvel will explore the origin story of the titular alter-ego of the 16-year-old Pakistani-American girl. Much of the plot will revolve around Kamala Khan discovering that she is an alien-human hybrid known as Inhuman. After coming in contact with Terrigen crystals, she finds out that she has superpowers. The film will lead directly to 2023’s The Marvels.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - November 11, 2022
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is arguably the most emotionally significant film of Phase 4 of the MCU. After Chadwick Boseman passed away, the film will have to explore how it will pick up the pieces following the death of the lead actor. It will be interesting to see how Ryan Coogler will handle it. We know that the MCU has no plans of recasting Boseman’s King T’Challa, who is also known as the Black Panther. The last we heard about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, we found out that the production wasn’t going well. Because Leticia Wright refuses to get vaccinated, filming is currently at a standstill as they’ve already shot all they could without Wright.
Are there more MEU films and TV shows coming in 2022?
As we’ve already mentioned, these are just the Marvel TV shows and films that have confirmed release dates in 2022. Here is a complete list of all the upcoming MEU TV shows and films in 2022 without a release date/window:
Agatha: House of Harkness Armor Wars Echo Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special I Am Groot Ironheart Loki season 2 Marvel Zombies Moon Knight Secret Invasion She-Hulk Silk Spider-Man: Freshman Year Wakanda What If…? season 2
Do remember that nothing is set in stone. These could premiere in 2022 or not, it all depends on what Marvel Studios thinks is best for the MEU. We’ve already seen Disney delay several MEU films along with other Disney movies, so we wouldn’t be surprised if there was another delay especially if the current situation regarding the pandemic does not get any better. In the meantime, fans can look forward to watching Hawkeye on Disney Plus from November 24 through December 22 and Spider-Man: No Way Home in theaters, and IMAX on December 17, 2021.
