Konami has worked with the Celtic and the Rangers since 2018. Both clubs’ players as well as their stadiums were part of the much-maligned eFootball. On top of this, both clubs had a partnership set up with the upcoming free-to-play football game, UFL. However, a closer inspection at the game’s Partner Clubs section on its website reveals that this is no longer the case. By securing the Celtic and the Rangers, EA gives itself a chance to use the likeness of each player’s face for both clubs. Not to mention, bringing the Ibrox, the Rangers’ home ground, to a FIFA game would be a first since FIFA 99. Also, if Celtic Park is added to a future FIFA game, it would mark the first time that this would happen ever. Unfortunately, we don’t think that either of these things is going to happen anytime soon. Or, at least, before the release of FIFA 23. Electronic Arts officially cut ties with FIFA earlier this year. This means that FIFA 23 will be the last game in the decades-long partnership between EA and FIFA. This also explains why the first trailer for FIFA 23 feels like the end of an era. However, it will be business as usual for FIFA 23. EA confirmed that FIFA 23 will still have lootboxes. In the meantime, FIFA is on the lookout for a new partner for its next soccer game that’s coming out in 2024.
