According to Deadline, Conor McGregor will join the cast of next year’s remake of Road House. The classic 1980s cult action hit originally starred Patrick Swayze. In the remake, Jake Gyllenhaal will take the leading role. Joining Gyllenhaal is a smorgasbord of up-and-coming Hollywood stars such as Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lukas Gage, and Travis Van Winkle, as well as Billy Magnussen, and Daniela Melchior. McGregor, who is 34 years old, is currently on the mend after suffering a fractured leg in a July 2021 rematch against Dustin Poirier. After the fighters split their first two bouts as a result of an earlier rematch, McGregor lost to Poirier for the second straight time. A ringside doctor put a stop to the fight in round one after McGregor suffered an injury. But, while the Irish professional mixed martial arts fighter has spent the past year “resting”, he’s had his hands full growing his brand and business empire. As a result, Forbes ranked McGregor as the world’s highest-paid athlete last year. The report also confirms that McGregor will play an original character for Road House and not himself. We’re curious to find out what kind of role McGregor will play in the upcoming remake. Gyllenhaal will reportedly star as a former UFC fighter who finds himself working as a Florida Keys bar bouncer. We’ll likely find out more about the Road House remake soon after it goes into production in the Dominican Republic in a few weeks.
