The Grand Theft Auto franchise’s longtime developers have gone radio silent about the next numbered installment in the immensely popular video game series. Because of this, fans have had to resort to more “creative” measures to try and force Rockstar’s hand. So far, one fan has even stormed the stage of a German game show to ask the host if he has any idea when GTA 6 might release. Although no one has managed to one-up that yet, one fan who was attending an AEW: Dynamite match comes close.
Are all of these “fans” part of a publicity stunt?
Rockstar doesn’t need to market GTA 6 at all. All it needs to do is to confirm that it is working on the game. Fan demand will soar even further at the very sight of a release window. Of course, even if this is true, it doesn’t mean that Rockstar won’t try and generate buzz. For example, could Rockstar be encouraging these fans to act out and ask about GTA 6 in these live situtions? There was the aforementioned German gameshow incident that prompted the show’s host to wonder the same thing. There’s also what happened at a recent AEW: Dynamite match. A fan was spotted holding up a sign asking Rockstar when it was going to announce GTA 6. At this point, there’s no confirmed information about GTA 6. The closest thing to a sure thing that’s available right now is a rumored 2025 release date, which Jason Schreier and VGC later corroborated. However, if the growing number of brazen fans isn’t part of a publicity stunt orchestrated by Rockstar Games, all of this talk about GTA 6 might be enough to make the studio think of formally announcing GTA 6 even though it’s still presumably years away. Right now, Rockstar is preparing for the launch of the standalone version of GTA Online and the next-gen versions of GTA 5. After this, Rockstar is rumored to be releasing a GTA trilogy in 2022 although like GTA 6, the supposed compilation composed of GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas, has not been confirmed in any official capacity. If Rockstar does confirm GTA 6 despite the game still being very early in its development process, most fans probably wouldn’t mind. After all, the next The Elder Scrolls game was announced back in 2018 and it might not even release until 2023 or 2024. With that said, all everyone can do now is to wait for Rockstar to make a formal announcement, either addressing all of these fans asking for a GTA 6 update or to drop news about the game itself.
