Sony has been expanding its portfolio to include live-action adaptations of its blockbuster video games. We recently had a movie for Naughty Dog’s Uncharted which did well at the box office and was recently nominated for Best Adaptation at The Game Awards. The lineup of upcoming movies from Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions includes Gran Turismo, Days Gone, Gravity Rush, and Jak and Daxter. One live-action movie that fans are excited about is Ghost of Tsushima. The game itself is one cinematic masterpiece and fans are very much interested in seeing a full-length film based on the video game. Stahelski mentioned the upcoming film is part of his “list of things” to do and he’s “dying to direct” it, telling IGN: The director will want to take his time with this project to get it right. The plot of the movie is already very well laid out but the game has some very intricate details and is visually one of the most beautiful games on the PlayStation. The fight sequences and large-scale battles in the game would also take some effort to pull off. The live-action adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima was first announced in March 2021 with Stahelski being tapped to direct. Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions will be financing and distributing the movie. Sucker Punch Productions, which created the award-winning game, will be the executive producer of the project. It was recently announced that Takashi Doscher would be writing the screenplay for Ghost of Tsushima. Doscher is best known for directing and writing the screenplay of the movie Only, a post-apocalyptic romance film. Chad Stahelski is currently working on several projects. John Wick: Chapter 4 is slated for release on March 24, 2023. The director will also be helming John Wick: Chapter 5 and will be producing the spin-off movie Ballerina starring Ana de Armas. The Stahelski-led John Wick series is slowly expanding with several projects in the works. A spin-off series for the Continental Hotel has been rumored and features the origins story of hotel manager Winston. Halle Berry is also interested in making a spin-off for her character Sofia from John Wick 3. Lionsgate is also reportedly interested in a AAA game based on the character of John Wick. It may take a while before we see the Ghost of Tsushima movie adaptation seeing that the director is still working on several projects.
