According to GamesIndustry.biz, Ragnarok’s physical retail sales in the United Kingdom are higher compared to Elden Ring, Modern Warfare 2, and Pokemon Legends Arceus in its first week. The only other game to outsell Ragnarok is FIFA 23. More importantly, boxed sales of Ragnarok skewed heavily towards the supposedly-scant PlayStation 5 (82%) compared to the PlayStation 4 (18%). Ragnarok is also the fastest-selling God War game ever in the UK, surpassing its predecessor, 2018’s God of War. The numbers show that Ragnarok has sold more in a day than the previous record-holder in a week. You could argue that Ragnarok’s numbers are better because it’s launching on two platforms. If so, Ragnarok will likely outsell 2018’s God of War, which, as per the latest numbers, sold 19.5 million copies across the PS4 and the PC. Either way, Ragnarok should’ve posted similar numbers in the UK and the rest of the world. Sony has every reason to celebrate the commercial success of the Santa Monica Studio title. On top of being a smashing financial win, Kratos’ latest outing is a critical hit as well. The Game Awards recently revealed its list of nominees for December 8 and Ragnarok received the most at ten. It’s one of the frontrunners for the Game of the Year award alongside Elden Ring, which also coincidentally posted all-time sales figures for the Japanese market. We’ll likely find out in Sony’s financial report just how well Ragnarok sold. The grand total should blow past the last game and maybe even threaten GTA 5’s record of 29.52 million units sold for the PS3.
