The star of The Matrix and John Wick series of films is no stranger to action and adventure. Reeves is rumored to have been courted by Marvel Studios to play a key character in the MCU in the past. Plus he has played an American version of Hellblazer’s John Constantine. However, voicing Batman/Bruce Wayne for the animated DC League of Super-Pets is the closest the actor has come to playing a true superhero role. Now that Reeves has gotten a taste of donning the mantle of the Caped Crusader, what are his thoughts about doing more? Check out the details below.
Always his dream
Speaking in an interview with Extra TV, Reeves discussed his role in DC League of Super-Pets. The celebrated genre actor expressed his love for Gotham’s Dark Knight Detective: He continued by expressing his enthusiasm working with Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart for the animated film: In the middle of the interview, he was asked about the possibility of playing Batman in live action. Reeves had this to say: Reeves clearly has great love for the Batman character. However, judging by his answer, he feels Robert Pattinson is doing a good job as the current version of Bruce Wayne/Batman as shown in the Matt Reeves film. Although he is not closing the doors to the possibility, he is more open to playing an older Batman, if given the chance.
Multiple Batmen
While Robert Pattinson is the most recent live action version of The Batman on the big screen, he won’t be the only one quite soon. As reported before, Michael Keaton is reprising his version of Gotham’s protector in the upcoming Flash movie starring Ezra Miller, as well as the Batgirl project with Leslie Grace. In addition, Ben Affleck will also be appearing with Keaton in the Flash film. This puts the current tally of live action actors playing Batman at three. With the Discovery and Warner Bros. merger, the DCEU is in a state of flux. But with the concept of a multiverse already familiar to moviegoers, would adding another Batman played by Keanu Reeves be too much? Given how popular the character is, this might not be a problem. Interestingly, Keanu Reeves almost sported the cape and cowl as far back as 1995. The actor was considered for the role for Batman Forever, which ultimately went to Val Kilmer (who recently reprised his role as Iceman in Top Gun: Maverick). DC League of Super-Pets stars Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, with Kate Mckinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, Marc Maron, Thomas Middleditch, Ben Schwartz, and Keanu Reeves. Produced by Warner Animation Group, DC Entertainment, and Seven Bucks Productions, the animated superhero film flies into theaters on July 29, 2022.
