What are critics saying about House of Gucci?
London Evening Standard
“Lady Gaga’s sense of fun is dialed up to 11 - and it’ll be a crime if she doesn’t earn an Oscar nomination for her role as Patrizia Reggiani.” - Charlotte O’Sullivan
Minneapolis Star Tribune
“You reach the end of the movie, sometimes having been entertained and more often irritated, and wonder, “What were they trying to do here?” - Chris Hewitt
Sight & Sound
“The film is a tragi-comic triumph of operatic proportions. Thanks in no small part to stand-out star Lady Gaga, House of Gucci has made melodrama fashionable again.” - Rebecca Harrison
The Ringer
“It’s a movie blueprinted to be a hit, and if it succeeds-whether with boomers, millennials, Gaga’s Little Monsters, or some sort of broad coalition-it’ll sadly prove its own point about the inherent, illicit, and insubstantial allure of wretched excess.” - Adam Nayman
ABC News
“Amid the jumble of fake Italian accents and overall too-muchness, an Oscar-ready Lady Gaga is flat-out fabulous. Is this ravishing soap opera of high fashion and higher crimes outrageous camp or “The Godfather” in designer duds? I’m calling a tossup.” - Peter Travers
Is House of Gucci worth watching in theaters?
House of Gucci’s first weekend at the box office hasn’t come and gone yet, so we don’t really know just how well it will fare with audiences. However, if the critics are to go by, Scott’s latest movie is at least well worth watching just so that you can see for yourself just how bad or good it is. But, if you’re a fan of Lady Gaga, then it’s a no-brainer. Even critics who found very few to like about House of Gucci could see clearly that the singer-turned-actress was the star of the show, which is no easy feat when you consider that she’s acting alongside Adam Driver and Jared Leto. TLDR; House of Gucci isn’t a can’t miss, but it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try either. If you prefer to stay at home and watch House of Gucci from the comforts of your couch, you can wait for it to come to Paramount after a few months.
