“What’s your favorite scary movie?”
Buzzfeed’s exclusive featurette from Scream 5 sees Ghostface coming back to utter his now-iconic line, along with further information about the film’s plot. Scream 5 will bring back original cast members Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, David Arquette as Dewey Riley, as well as Marley Shelton as Judy Hicks. Meanwhile, Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will be directing Scream 5 following the untimely demise of the film’s original director, Wes Craven, back in 2015. In addition to the returning cast members, Scream 5 is also going to bring in several new faces such as Dylan Minnette, Jack Quaid, Kyle Gallner, and Jenna Ortega, who we learned in an earlier trailer will take on the role of Drew Barrymore in the first Scream movie. One interesting detail in the latest trailer is the return of Courteney Cox. It doesn’t explain why Gale Weathers comes back, especially since she and Dewey are technically already divorced. We also learned that Sam is hiding a secret and that she’s hell-bent on trying to keep it that way. Having said that, we do know that Sidney will continue to play a vital role in the movie, decades after she was first haunted by Ghostface. The featurette shows her trying to make the teenagers understand just how dire the situation is and how Ghostface won’t stop until all of them are dead. But, at the same time, she reassures the scared youngsters that she and the rest of the original cast are there for them. Ultimately, the latest Scream 5 featurette accomplishes what Paramount Pictures probably set out to do - get fans hyped for what’s shaping up to be another installment that’s full of shocking twists and turns. Scream 5 is set to premiere on January 14, 2022.
