343 makes over year-long wait for Halo Infinite worth it
343’s latest six-minute trailer for Halo Infinite shows off the game’s highly anticipated campaign mode, which comes with several improvements. This time around, 343 has added new gameplay and systems, new enemies, bosses, and weapons, as well as “The Weapon”, a new AI companion for players. The trailer also gives audiences some valuable insight into how Infinite’s open-world design works, as well as the new RPG-style systems that add optional objectives and bases for players to complete to receive equipment upgrades. Halo Infinite is the first mainline Halo game to release in almost a decade. The upcoming title will pick up exactly where 2015’s Halo 5: Guardians and 2017’s Halo Wars 2 left off. The former ended on a cliffhanger as it saw Master Chief’s former buddy, Cortana, start an AI revolution. Meanwhile, the latter introduced the “Banished”, which is the latest strain of the series’ long-time baddies, the Covenant. 343 needed something to sell fans on Halo Infinite’s single-player campaign after making its multiplayer online experience free-to-play. Judging by the overwhelmingly positive reception that the game’s latest campaign trailer has received, it’s safe to say that 343 has successfully redeemed itself if only ever so slightly. With that said, it’s only a matter of time before audiences finally get a chance to play through the entirety of Halo Infinite’s campaign. 343 initially planned to release Halo Infinite alongside the Xbox Series S and X last fall. Unfortunately, due to several factors, including the negative reception to the game’s initial trailers and the COVID-19 pandemic, 343 decided to delay the game. Ultimately, the decision has proven beneficial. After several playtests and now, the latest campaign trailer, fans can’t help but sing 343 praises for all of its efforts. Halo Infinite is now expected to release on December 8. Unfortunately, it’s going to be missing a few key features at launch, including Forge and the campaign’s co-op mode.
