Does Kate’s arrival set up a farewell for Clint Barton?
Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton is one of the few members from the original Avengers cast that’s still in the MCU. He’s also the only one that doesn’t have a solo feature film, although he is the first of the OG team to get his spin-off TV series. However, from what we’ve seen in the trailers so far, Hawkeye appears to be a setup for Clint to pass the arrow torch to his protege, Kate Bishop. It will be interesting to see how and when that will happen, but for now, the latest trailer shows quite the interesting interaction between Clint Barton and Kate’s mother, Eleanor Bishop. One thing that audiences have known for a while is that Hawkeye will feature a threat from Barton’s past. There has also been hints that this is from someone during the post-Snap years where he lived as Ronin. The latest trailer suggests that the enemy is no slouch. We also find out that Kate is helping Barton out to deal with an “Avengers-level threat” albeit the trailer stops short of revealing the identity of the enemy. If it’s any consolation, the trailer did treat fans to a series of sequences that showcase all of the “trick arrows” that Barton and Kate are going to use throughout the show. Having said that, we are curious to find out what Kate’s arrival means for Barton in the MCU. The clips we’ve seen so far suggest that Barton isn’t sold on Kate’s superhero prowess. Barton’s told Kate to take the superhero job more seriously. Thankfully, Barton’s eager protege isn’t lacking in any confidence. She has even referred to herself as the “world’s greatest archer” based on an earlier trailer. Hawkeye will serve as the fifth TV series that’s part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series will premiere with two episodes on November 24, 2021. More importantly, Hawkeye is facing some heavy expectations. All four of the previous Marvel TV series have received critical acclaim and most fans are expecting Hawkeye to live up to the franchise’s standards.
