Instead of launching on June 22, as planned, the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead will come out on October 12.

— Back 4 Blood (@back4blood) March 25, 2021 According to the official statement, Turtle Rock needs more time to “make Back 4 Blood the best game it can be at launch”, which is why they have decided to push back the release date by a couple of months. If it’s any consolation, there is a silver lining to all of this. Even though players won’t have a chance to play Back 4 Blood this Summer, an open beta will be available to allow players a glimpse of what’s to come once it is out on the market. Black 4 Blood is one of the most highly anticipated titles that’s set to release in 2021. It’s basically Left 4 Dead. The only difference is the title. Everything else is the same, including the team behind it. Turtle Rock Studios, previously known as Valve South, was responsible for developing the first Left 4 Dead title before Valve took over the lead for the sequel. Since releasing Left 4 Dead, Turtle Rock Studios has worked on several projects. This includes the wildly ambitious shooter, Evolve, before moving on to work on Back 4 Blood in recent years. Considering that it’s been more than a decade since Left 4 Dead was released, fans of the co-op shooter are understandably curious to see what the studio has come up with in Back 4 Blood. If nothing else, some are curious whether or not the gameplay will hold up to today’s standards.
What’s Next for Back 4 Blood?
Back 4 Blood was first revealed at The Game Awards 2020 where it wowed audiences with its gameplay, which feels very much like Left 4 Dead. However, the studios did add a lot of things to make the game different as well from its spiritual predecessor. Among the many new additions to Back 4 Blood that we know of so far include more zombie types and a card mechanic that can either make your perilous zombie-filled journey more difficult or easier, depending on what you draw. While Back 4 Blood has been billed as the next Left 4 Dead, it’s important to remember that it is not quite the same game. The Left 4 Dead IP still belongs to Valve as of the moment. If Back 4 Blood is successful, there is the possibility that they might try to revive the franchise, especially with so many zombie movies and games slated for 2021. Speaking of Valve, the usually complacent company seems to be more proactive these days. They’re currently working on multiple projects. This includes alluding to a possible Half-Life 3 release, putting more work in making Dota 2 beginner-friendly, and even rebranding their semi-regular games showcase to rival E3 in June.
