The Netflix original movie, which stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson alongside Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot is one of the biggest productions in Netflix history. With a ginormous budget of $200 million, Netflix better hopes that the film does well. However, Red Notice didn’t just do “okay” on the streaming platform - it set the record for the most-watched film in Netflix history, beating 2018’s Birdbox.
Red Notice sets new Netflix record in half the time
Bird Box, which starred Sandra Bullock, was the previous record-holder for Netflix with 282,020,000 hours viewed. This roughly translates to around 32,172 years, give or take. What’s most impressive about Red Notice’s new record is that it didn’t need a month to set it. Red Notice already has nearly 130,000,000 hours viewed after it premiered on Netflix on November 15. This means that still has a chance to widen the gap between it and Birdbox for the strongest hourly 28-day debut in Netflix history. Having said that, does the success of Red Notice mean that the trio will be back for a sequel? The open-ended ending of the movie suggests that this is a possibility. At the same time, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been quoted that there’s not enough money in the world to bring them all three together in the same film again. But, then again, who knows? In other news, Red Notice’s runaway success must have put Johnson in a giving mood. The Hollywood actor, who’s been known to make a fan’s day or two, recently gave away his custom truck to a veteran after he attended a special Red Notice screening. Excited fans will get a chance to see Johnson next in a movie in 2022’s upcoming DCEU superhero, Black Adam. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Reynolds. Johnson’s co-star is currently on Hollywood break. Finally, audiences can watch Gal Gadot next in Death on the Nile, which is set to premiere on February 11, 2022. TLDR; if a Red Notice sequel is going to happen, don’t expect it to premiere anytime soon.
