We already know that Deadpool 3 is in development and possibly started filming already. Ryan Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively shared a photo of Reynolds wearing this Deadpool costume recently. The Shang-Chi sequel, on the other hand, has had very little information to show for itself. We know that the sequel has been green-lit since December 21 following the spectacular box office showing of the first movie. New rumors have possibly revealed that Shang-Chi 2 may be slated for release on February 14, 2025. The date seems very specific considering that it is two and a half years away. Other films in Phase 6 do not yet have an exact date - at least, not one that is publicly known. The information about the Shang-Chi 2’s release date came from Reddit courtesy of user MSSmods. According to the post, the date for the Shang-Chi sequel comes from a trusted source. The date matches the release of an Untitled Marvel Movie in the Winter / Spring of 2025. The unnamed project could be seen in the presentation by Kevin Feige during the SDCC. Daniel Destin Cretton, who wrote the screenplay and directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is expected to return for the sequel. Cretton will also be directing The Avengers: Kang Dynasty which means that he will be busy for the next two years if the Shang-Chi 2 release date is accurate. It is very likely that Shang-Chi would appear in the next Avengers movie since they share the same director. During the San Diego Comic Con, Simu Liu commented that he will be busy for the next few years, seemingly indicating he will be part of the films in the MCU lineup. “I don’t want to jump the gun or anything, but I feel like there might be room for me in a couple of those, wouldn’t you say?,” Liu stated after watching the MCU presentation at the SDCC.
Shang-Chi and Miss Marvel
Fans have speculated that Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings and Ms. Marvel’s Bangle will be the new MacGuffins for the upcoming Avengers movies. A MacGuffin is an object, device, or event that is necessary to the plot of a film. In the MCU, the MacGuffin of the Infinity Saga which connected Thor, Doctor Strange, Captain America, and others to the Infinity Stones. According to the mid-credits scene of the first Shang Chi movie, the Ten Rings are more than a thousand years old and not from Earth. According to Wong, the Ten Rings are also a magical beacon of sorts. Having Wong, Bruce Banner, and Captain Marvel in the Shang-Chi post-credit scenes also seems to allude that he will also be part of the Avengers at some point. Fans have suggested that Ms. Marvel’s bangle is related to Shang-Chi. During Episode 3 of Ms. Marvel, the Clandestines discovered the bangle in the ruins of an ancient temple. The symbol of the Ten Rings organization can be seen on the floor of the ruins where the item was found. During an interview, Simu Liu also mentioned that the post-credit sequences of the first film “sets up what is to come and is just the perfect welcome to the circus that is the MCU.” It will be interesting how Shang-Chi ties up with the Avengers and Ms. Marvel. For now, we wait for more easter eggs and teasers from the upcoming Marvel films and ongoing TV shows.
