Mind you, this isn’t some leak from a random individual - it comes straight from the Xbox store. A dataminer had a look into the Xbox digital store listing for Skull & Bones and found that it had been updated to list a release date for November 8 alongside a list of in-game DLC and bonus content. Ubisoft has never confirmed when the upcoming pirate sim will come out. However, the presumed placeholder date does hold up with what Ubisoft said in an earlier earnings call that the game is still scheduled to set sail on or before March 2023. Not to mention, if the company was confident enough to start playtesting Skull and Bones back in March, we’d like to think that the development is going smoothly, all things considered.

For the lack of a better word, the game’s development has been a shit show for the better part of the past decade. What initially began as an expansion to the 2013 title, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, has since transformed and switched hands more times than you could possibly count. Then again, if Ubisoft is serious about revamping the Assassin’s Creed experience, it would need something to tide audiences who loved the naval combat and open seas aspect of the games. Let’s say that Basim’s more stealth-focused installment and it will come out by next year. This would mean that releasing Skull and Bones by November, even if it’s still in beta, would give audiences a choice between something more like the older Assassin’s Creed games and the newer ones. For now, all we can do is sit tight and wait. We’ve already seen the ESRB give Skull and Bones a rating, so it definitely feels like it’s only a matter of time before we see a re-reveal. Maybe the rumors are true that Ubisoft is planning something big next month ahead of its Gamescom 2022 showcase? This would mean that the company will be a monthly fixture starting next month with an event dedicated to Assassin’s Creed in September, as stated during the series’ 15th-anniversary celebration.
