After confirming, in December last year, that the first part of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was coming in October this year, Sony Pictures announced that it will push back the animated film’s release date by nearly a year to June 2, 2023. In the same announcement, Sony also revealed that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part II will come out on March 29, 2024. The news comes as a gut punch to fans who’ve been waiting for more Across the Spider-Verse info. The movie should’ve already been out by now as the original premiere date was on April 8. Not to mention, Morbius is already but a distant memory now, so Sony is free to drop details on its upcoming slate of Spider-Man films.

If it’s any consolation, Sony did release an official description for both parts of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web, which is hitting theaters on July 7, 2023. “Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have encountered,” reads Across the Spider-Verse’s official description. Meanwhile, it appears that Madame Web will explore the clairvoyant psychic’s backstory, although we strongly feel that it’s going to have a lot of multiverse elements in it. Speaking of the multiverse, Christopher Miller and Phil Lord hinted in February that Across the Spider-Verse will feature a crossover between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Oddly enough, Sony Pictures didn’t take this opportunity to talk a bit more about Kraven the Hunter. 2023 is a relatively stacked year for Spider-Man, as Madame Web, Across the Spider-Verse, and Kraven the Hunter are all set to be released. But, unlike Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter doesn’t even have an official synopsis yet with no news yet of when it will start filming with only a few months go before January 13, 2023.
