Although the decision did pave the way for Tom Holland’s time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are still fans who wonder what could have been had Sony gone through with its initial plans. Following the successful premiere of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw all three versions of Spider-Man team up against a multiversal collection of classic Spider-Man villains, the calls for Garfield to reprise his former role grew louder. There were even rumors that Sony is considering a third The Amazing Spider-Man film, but there’s been little news about similar earlier reports. Now, it appears that all the fans asking for Sony to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3 finally have a chance to be acknowledged. As the fandom continues to make #MakeTASM3 trend on Twitter, Sony’s official Twitter account has finally responded. In a new tweet promoting the digital release of No Way Home, the people behind the social media account got cheeky and used the caption, The Amazing Peter #3. Of course, this is a play on how the three Spider-Men referred to themselves by number, with Garfield being assigned the number 3 with Tobey Maguire getting number 2 and Holland getting number 1. But, just in case things got out of hand, the social media team included a disclaimer to clarify that they are not the ones responsible for greenlighting movies.

(Note: Yes, we’ve seen the hashtag. No, we don’t decide which movies get made. We’re just the social team 🙂)#SpiderManNoWayHome is now on Digital, and coming to 4K UHD and Blu-ray on April 12: https://t.co/unUkX9ceZc pic.twitter.com/TCsyk7swLC — Sony (@Sony) March 22, 2022 A single social media account by any company might not hold the most authority, but the number of fans engaging with it does say something. Fans have had success getting their pleas heard in the past, so there’s a chance that Sony might listen. Unfortunately, unlike previous examples like, let’s say, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, making The Amazing Spider-Man 3 takes far more work as it is an entirely new film. Sony will not only have to bring Garfield back in, but they’ll have to find a story good enough to warrant all the hype. Some say that they should give Garfield’s Spider-Man a sendoff like 2017’s Logan, which isn’t exactly the worst idea. Regardless of what happens, we know that Sony’s “acknowledgment” is going to get a lot of fans hyped. For now, all fans can do is to keep on tweeting #MakeTASM3 in hopes that Sony will eventually cave in and announced The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Speaking of Spider-Man, the next film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, Morbius, is set to release on April 1. As expected, critics are not fond of Morbius, but with a shorter runtime than most films and the potential to see a Spider-Man or Venom cameo or two, it has the potential to do a lot of damage at the global box office.
