While the ongoing pandemic still looms above everybody’s heads, No Way Home just proved that audiences are ready to flock to theaters to get a chance to watch it. Case in point, the first day of Spider-Man: No Way Home ticket pre-sales has set the second-highest record in the history of the United States, falling just short of beating 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

By the time the dust had settled, No Way Home had earned itself over $35 million within 24 hours of ticket pre-sales going live. If true, this total places No Way Home just right behind Avengers: Endgame, which sold a little over $40 million in pre-sale tickets. What makes No Way Home’s early box office take so amazing is that it happened right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Marvel Studios only started releasing new movies earlier this year starting with Black Widow followed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Eternals. All of these three combined only made around $6 million in pre-sales, which isn’t even half of No Way Home’s numbers. 2019’s Avengers: Endgame is one of the highest-grossing films with nearly $2.8 billion at the global box office. No Way Home probably won’t make similar numbers, but you’ll never know. No Time to Die and F9 made a little over $700 million at the global box office each. The former is the current pandemic record-holder for an international film and it reportedly saw ticket pre-sale numbers that rivaled Endgame in other countries outside of the United States, especially the United Kingdom. Since the United States is a much bigger market, we wouldn’t be surprised if No Way Home ends up becoming the first movie during the COVID-19 pandemic to gross over $1 billion at the global box office. Thankfully, fans don’t have to wait too long to find out. Spider-Man: No Way Home is expected to premiere on December 17. In other Marvel news, No Way Home producer Amy Pascal just confirmed that Tom Holland is returning to make more Spider-Man films. Meanwhile, Joe Russo praised Tom Holland and called the Spider-Man actor the “heart and soul of the MCU”. Although Holland’s future in the MCU is not confirmed yet, so long as No Way Home doesn’t kill off his character, we don’t think that Sony and Marvel will end their lucrative partnership anytime soon.
