When Square Enix announced a remake for Final Fantasy VII, it was only a matter of time before Crisis Core was also remastered for newer audiences to enjoy. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion was announced in June 2022 to celebrate Final Fantasy VII’s 25th anniversary. Square Enix has released the launch trailer for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion two weeks ahead of launch. The trailer is spoiler-heavy, so players who want to jump into the game blind should avoid it at all costs. The studio has said that the new game is more than just a remaster of the PSP version and will add a lot of improvements to the original. The new trailer shows off some of these improvements mainly to the graphics and gameplay. In Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, players will be taking on the role of Zack Fair, a SOLDIER, and friend of Cloud. The events of Crisis Core take place seven years before Final Fantasy 7. Zack is mentored by Angeal and befriends both Sephiroth and Genesis. Genesis becomes the primary antagonist of Crisis Core while Sephiroth eventually ends up as the bad guy for Final Fantasy 7. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion overhauled the iconic real-time combat system of the original. This combat system was a strong departure from the turn-based combat that the Final Fantasy series is known for. However, it was adopted in some of the later titles in the series. The upcoming action RPG also remastered the soundtrack of the original and the trailer highlighted this by using “Why” performed by Ayaka as its background music. It’s safe to say that the soundtrack is as good, if not better, than the original. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion also updated the graphics and cinematics of the PSP game. This is evident in the launch trailer which shows off some of the game’s cutscenes. The game should look amazing on newer consoles and especially on PC. Fans of the original game will be happy to know that the upcoming Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion will be available on more platforms than its predecessor. The game is coming to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam for PC. It is now available for pre-order on all platforms. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion will be released on December 13, 2022, on all platforms.
