Sure enough, Distortion2 did not get that memo.
A little over a month after speedrunners found a way to finish Elden Ring in under 30 minutes, Distortion2 one-upped everybody multiple times within the span of just a few days. After posting a video of him finishing Elden Ring in only 14 minutes and 8 seconds, Distortion2 continued to beat his times by posting a personal and world best of 12 minutes and 13 seconds, which is just a few seconds faster than Mitchcriz’s earlier attempt that took him 12 minutes and 32 seconds. One of the biggest changes that Distortion2 and Mitchcriz’s made in their latest record-breaking runs is the use of the Mega Zip glitch. The exploit, which is similar to the older Zip Glitch, lets you travel far greater distances with ease. Although the glitch isn’t the easiest to replicate, when you can do it, it lets players finish hours’ worth of travel in just a few minutes. But, this isn’t the best part about Distortion2’s run. According to the description of his latest Elden Ring speedrun video, “a new route is in the works which involve fighting no bosses.” The YouTuber then teased that this new route might lead to sub-10 minute runs. Only time will tell if Distortion2 and other speedrunners will succeed in finishing Elden Ring in less than 10 minutes. Speaking of Elden Ring, the game’s publisher, Bandai Namco, let longtime Soulsborne fan and famed fantasy author, Brandon Sanderson, know that it’s interested in working on a game with him in the future.
