After continuing the long-standing Game of Thrones tradition of featuring elderly bad-ass women who you don’t want to mess with, Eve Best’s Rhaenys Targaryen has flown to the true heir to the Iron Throne, Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra Targaryen, to side with her in the upcoming war. Afterward, we’re treated to a minute-look montage of the Blacks preparing to lay waste to the Red Keep as Matt Smith’s Daemon sings to the third-largest dragon in all of Westeros. Last week’s episode, The Green Council, focused primarily on the Greens as Olivia Cooke’s Alicent Hightower and Rhys Ifans’s Otto Hightower, make moves to replace Paddy Considine’s Viserys I Targaryen following his death in Episode 8. A “misunderstanding” of her late husband’s dying wish gives the queen consort confidence to seat their son, Tom Glynn-Carney’s Aegon II Targaryen, on the Iron Throne. Now, the lines have been drawn with Rhaenys and Meleys sending a resounding message after the rider-dragon tandem crashed the coronation party in brutal fashion. For the finale of House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra and Daemon, as well as the rest of the Blacks, will all return after learning of the travesty that just occurred in King’s Landing over the past week. One of the highlights of the trailer is Daemon singing to Vermithor, King Jaehaerys’ dragon. We know that Vagar is a massive beast but Vermithor isn’t too far behind. As Daemon tells his niece/wife about how the Hightowers stole her birthright, it becomes clear that the finale will feature some sort of dramatic clash involving actual dragons and the family who so frequently uses them in their sigils. Book readers will know exactly what the trailer is leading up to, so those who’ve exclusively stuck to the show are in for quite the treat. Unfortunately, as you might already know by now, House of the Dragon is finally ending on Sunday, October 23. After waiting for years to see the Game of Thrones spin-off in action, fans will now have to wait for its return. Thankfully, HBO has confirmed that it’s coming back for a second season, which should start filming next year. In addition to this, Matt Smith effectively told everyone that the third one is coming right after in a recent interview. Finally, George R.R. Martin planted the seeds for what could potentially be a four-season run for House of the Dragon. Fingers crossed, House of the Dragon will be back by Season 2 and we’ll really get into the meat of things by then.
