The streaming platform listed the show’s premiere date on its service page and it will be on January 6. The show’s finale aired on AMC, its original network, on November 20, so the Netflix premiere date will come as a surprise to fans many of whom wouldn’t have expected it until later in the year. Like previous seasons of the series, the final season is a true adaptation of the comic book franchise as it focuses on the ongoing conflict between survivors and the Commonwealth. This isn’t to say the show didn’t incorporate its own elements. Case in point, The Walking Dead’s 11th season portrayed a different fate for Rosita Espinosa as well as the return of Rick Grimes, one of the most fabled characters in the show. Fans of The Walking Dead don’t have to worry too much about the main series ending. The franchise has produced several spinoffs, including the prequel Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and the anthology Tales of the Walking Dead. Fear the Walking Dead began airing in 2015 and it has an eighth season on the way, The Walking Dead: World Beyond ran for two seasons and concluded in 2021, and Tales of the Walking Dead is expected to be renewed for another season. AMC is working on more spinoffs. One of these is The Walking Dead: Dead City, which will come out in April. The studio is also working on a Daryl Dixon spinoff, another spin-off that will revolve around Ricky and Michonne, and a Negan and Maggie spinoff titled Isle of the Dead. Fans of the franchise who want to catch up on all seasons, from the first to the eleventh, can do so on AMC while the other seasons are currently available on Netflix as well. If you’re looking forward to seeing your favorite The Walking Dead actors on the small and big screen, Norman Reedus and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are currently working on new stuff. The former will be a part of Death Stranding 2, reprising his role as Sam Porter. Meanwhile, the former TWD villain has joined The Boys Season 4 in a mystery role.
