Despite the young upstart’s best efforts at the WWE Crown Jewel, he couldn’t overcome the brick wall that is Roman Reigns. After putting on a show, Reigns inevitably won the match and went home as the still-Undisputed Universal Champion. But, now that Triple H is at the helm as the Chief Content Officer, the WWE finally has plans on how to dethrone Roman after the ex-CEO, Vince McMahon, didn’t even entertain the thought. According to WrestleVotes, the new WWE regime has changed its mind, saying: Cody Rhodes, The Rock, and Bray Wyatt are definitely good candidates. Cody’s return to the WWE set him up as the next big thing and his subsequent match with Seth Rollins proved that. Unfortunately, he got hurt giving us the performance of his life as things got a bit murky. In an ideal world, Cody will return at The Royal Rumble where he’ll set himself up as the title contender in time for WrestleMania. After Cody’s earlier promo where he talked about his dreams of winning the title for his dad, Cody is easily the best candidate among the three. At least, in terms of wrestling continuity. After all, it’s unlikely that The Rock will return to the WWE as one of its performers full time even if he ends up fighting against family at WrestleMania 39 in April. We’re not quite sold on Wyatt just yet. After McMahon wasted one of the most undermined talents the WWE has had in recent memory, fans have reservations. But, with Triple H as the leader, who knows? Triple H has praised Bray before, describing him as one of the most creative people in the industry. For what it’s worth, Wyatt’s most recent appearances have been generating a ton of buzz. The WWE will need to do a ton of building up to put Wyatt in title contention sooner rather than later. However, if the WWE can fully commit to the idea, it’s easy to picture a scenario where Wyatt walks away as the Undisputed WWE Champion at an upcoming premium live event. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter who pins Reigns. We’re just happy to know that the WWE has a path forward already.
