The Assassin’s Creed franchise looks set to be very busy in the coming years. Ubisoft revealed at the Forward event that the series has six games that are in development. One game that has been mentioned in the leaks is a remake of the original Assassin’s Creed. The rumors state that “Ubisoft is secretly preparing the remake of Assassin’s Creed 1 based on the Rift/Mirage’s work. They will reuse a large part of the assets.” The leak also mentioned that Assassin’s Creed 1 will be part of the Season Pass and include the Constantinople DLC. Well, it looks like those rumors will be put to rest as Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s Art Director, Jean-Luc Sala denied that the game is in development. He mentions “that’s not what we’re doing. I’m fully dedicated to Mirage and I can tell you we are not remaking AC1.” Assassin’s Creed series executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté also denied rumors that they are working on the remake in an interview with Axios.
The future of Assassin’s Creed
The remake that many fans have been hoping for will not be coming but there will be a lot of games coming to the Assassin’s Creed universe. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the next big thing. The game features a younger Basim as the main character and will be set in Baghdad during his youth, before Basim’s encounter with the Hidden Ones. The game will bring the series back to its roots and focus on action-adventure stealth gameplay. The next game announced was Project Red which takes place in feudal Japan and players will be playing as a ninja assassin. This has been requested by fans of the franchise for a long time. Just the thought of running through rooftops in Kyoto or Osaka in the Tokugawa era seems like a lot of fun. Project Hexe is billed to be the next flagship game for Assassin’s Creed franchise according to series executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté. While the trailer is short, rumors have begun to swirl that the game will take place in Central Europe during the Witch Hunts. Hexe is german for Witch. Two new mobile games are also set to be part of the Assassin’s Creed Universe. Project Jade will be an AC title set in Ancient China and the first game in the franchise where players can customize characters. An unnamed Assassin’s Creed mobile game is also being developed in partnership with Netflix. Finally, Ubisoft is also working on the Assassin’s Creed Infinity which is a live-service hub for the franchise. Included in the Infinity live service is a multiplayer battle royale type game called Project Invictus. With all these games coming to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, it will be some time before Ubisoft has any spare capacity for a remake.
