Magic Mike’s Last Dance is shaping up to be an action-comedy film and will see Tatum reprise his role from the first two films as well as Steven Soderbergh’s return to the director’s seat. Soderbergh directed the first movie in the franchise but vacated the role for the second entry which Gregory Jacobs helmed.
The film series is loosely based on Tatum’s life before he became a Hollywood star. The first film in the franchise tells the story of a young man, Michael “Magic Mike” Lane, and his struggle to quit his work as a stripper in Tampa and build another life. The film was a critical and commercial success and it grossed a whopping $167.2 million against a budget of $7 million. The trailer of Magic Mike’s Last Dance begins with Mike taking in the view of Miami’s skyline while standing on a beach, then switches to show Mike bartending at a resort where he meets Salma Hayek’s character. Later, in her room, he dances for her to correct her impression of him as a bartender. She then invites him to London to help her put together a show that will wake people up with “a wave of passion they’ve never felt before.” The rest of the trailer shows Mike meeting the daughter of Hayek’s character, him and other performers dancing in what seems like every possible location, and Hayek’s character fighting to keep the show running. Magic Mike’s Last Dance was originally intended to release straight to HBO Max. However, in September, Warner Bros. top brass decided that the film will head to theaters instead. Apart from changes to release, another major change that happened to Magic Mike’s Last Dance was the recasting of the film’s female lead. Thandiwe Newton was originally supposed to star alongside Tatum. However, she was replaced by Salma Hayek in April 2022. Apart from Tatum and Hayek, the film will also star Gavin Spokes, Ayub Khan Din, Juliette Motamed, Caitlin Gerard, and Christopher Bencomo. In other entertainment news, Disney+’s upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again will likely be R rated, according to a reliable industry insider. Also, David Harbour has revealed he will be filming Stranger Things 5 and Thunderbolts concurrently in 2023. The Red Guardian actor had some comments about his busy schedule during a recent interview with Collider. Magic Mike’s Last Dance is scheduled for a February 10, 2023 release.
